Barbara Stanwyck stars as a horsewoman who is forced to take a stable job working for an uppity society matron, Tobin. It's not long before she meets the impoverished Raymond, a polo player who works at the stables and is a favorite of Tobin's. Because of the growing closeness between Stanwyck and Raymond, Tobin becomes quite jealous, as does Eldredge who wants Stanwyck for himself. Raymond risks falling from the grace of his high-society family by eloping with Stanwyck, but their love for each other helps them survive the turbulent times. Later, while at a yacht party, a drunken showgirl falls overboard and drowns, causing one of the ship's officers to place blame on Eldredge. The future looks dim for Eldredge when he is placed on trial, but Stanwyck clears his name by admitting she was the mysterious "woman in red" who was seen leaving the yacht that night. By making public her whereabouts, Stanwyck risks alienating herself from Raymond's family. Instead, they firmly support her stand, solidly bonding her marriage.  It's Stanwyck's picture all the way (originally it was planned as a Bette Davis vehicle), so fans of hers will love it.
